What Do Engineers Do?

Engineers use concepts and knowledge in mathematics and sciences to find answers to the important technical problems in the world. As an engineer, you would have to be able to apply properties learned in the classroom combined with problem solving skills to in order to improve society.

The field of engineering has become a very broad field. Not only do engineers build bridges and skyscrapers, but they build artifical organs and develop the code for machines that change the world.

  2. Chemical Engineer
  3. Mechanical Engineer
  4. Electrical Engineer
  5. Industrial Engineer
  6. Computer Engineer

Bioengineering is the field for me

A big reason I want to become a biomedical engineer is to make revolutionary impacts in the world of medicine. I want to develop the technology that allows us to detect and destroy cancerous cells and reverse the processes of the deuteriation of healthy cells. For example, my grandfather recently passed away from blood and bone marrow cancer and it was very difficult to see him in pain every day.

Currently there are treatments that slow the division of cancerous cells but many still come with side effects that are sometimes equally as painful as the cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, cancer treatment can affect healthy tissue and cells and depending on your age, the frequency of the treatment and the type of treatment you receive will depend on the severity of the side effects. As a biomedical engineer, I aspire to make the technology that would destroy cancer cells while preserving healthy cells and I feel like the field of biomedical engineering is the best place for me to make such an impact.
