Members of the Pitt community and their families are invited to participate in a special—and virtual—United Way Day of Caring—on Saturday, June 20. Individuals and families can sign up for virtual volunteer projects to create care packages for people currently struggling during the pandemic, including children, families and seniors.
Volunteer for one of these easy-to-do projects:
Summer activity kits for kids
Perfect for families who want to keep their young children busy when summer camps and other childcare programs may be canceled, these kits can include coloring books, crayons and other activities. Volunteers can get creative with the interactive elements they include.
Personal protection pack
For families who need help staying safe, volunteers can buy or sew face masks to include in sealed gallon-sized bags along with items like disinfectant wipes and disposable gloves.
“I Care” card for a senior
Many older adults experienced loneliness and isolation even before the outbreak. Volunteers can brighten their spirits and wish them well with short notes and cards of encouragement.
Baby supplies pack
Donate a pack of diapers, package of wipes and bottle of hand sanitizer that will help parents who have lost wages and need to care for their infants and toddlers.
How to sign up
Signing up is a simple process that includes choosing the project, entering some details like name and pick-up location, and sharing the project to social media channels using the hashtag #UnitedWayCares.
Use your Pitt email address to sign up—it helps the United Way track University participation.
