Time magazine again put Pitt on its Best Colleges for Future Leaders list

The recipe for making a mark on the world calls for a stellar education, and Pitt has the right ingredients.

That’s according to Time magazine and Statistica’s latest Best Colleges for Future Leaders list, which ranks Pitt No. 39 overall, up 12 spots from last year.

The rankings were determined by analyzing the resumés of 4,000 of the country’s most influential leaders — CEOs, politicians, sports figures and nonprofit directors among them — noting which schools they attended and then weighting those results according to school size. Though the top of the list is dominated by so-called Ivy Plus schools like Harvard and Stanford, flagship public universities, liberal arts colleges and historically Black colleges and universities were also well represented.

The list expanded this year from 100 to 125 schools as analysts focused on a wider array of positions held, sectors represented and pathways to success taken by the leaders.

Pitt ranked No. 14 among public schools, up 10 spots from last year, with the Katz Graduate School of Business listed as a notable subsidiary. The only other Pittsburgh-area university to make the list was Carnegie Mellon, which ranked No. 25 overall.
