Irvis Hall Walkway Closure Effective Jan. 8

The Pittsburgh campus’ Hillside Restoration and Enabling Project continues to make progress. When complete, the project will provide walking, biking and road pathway improvements, in addition to updating aging utilities infrastructure including power, chilled water and sewer lines. Work will also include a new pedestrian-friendly walkway to travel up and down campus and additional outdoor gathering spaces.

Today begins a temporary closure of the pedestrian walkway on the south side of Irvis Hall through Feb. 5, 2021 to continue repair work. Pedestrians can travel by using the shuttle service or the Petersen Events Center stairs.

Closures that began in the prior project phase remain in place:

  • The main pedestrian stairs from Irvis Hall to Chevron Science Center are closed. Pedestrians can travel by using the shuttle service or the Petersen Events Center stairs.
  • Pedestrian stairs from Eberly Hall to University Drive A remain closed. Pedestrians are able to access Eberly from Parkman Avenue.
  • Upper University Drive A and University Drive B remain closed to vehicles. Vehicles can access the area using Allequippa Street to University Drive C by Irvis Hall.

This essential restoration and enabling work should be completed in April 2021. Additional future work is planned for the hillside area to be finalized.
