Call for Artists: What Does Black Lives Matter Mean to You?

What does the phrase Black Lives Matter mean to you? That is the premise for a new art installation, “Don’t Look Away: Because Mattering is the Minimum,” sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh.

Pitt invites all artists throughout Western Pennsylvania, as well as any Pitt faculty, students, staff or alumni, to submit art for the outdoor exhibition, which will be erected on the Pittsburgh campus.

A selection committee will choose 30 works for the display. Each original piece of art will be reproduced onto large canvas panels. Submissions are due before midnight EST on Dec. 1, 2020, and each selected artist will receive $500.

Organizers say the exhibition will recognize the work that has been done and the work still left to do to achieve racial equity. The project is designed to not only honor the lives we have lost but also to celebrate the Black experience. After the exhibition is displayed at the Pittsburgh campus, it will travel to the regional campuses.
