Get the most interesting and important stories from the University of Pittsburgh. The new Office of Finance and Operations — which combines the expertise of Pitt’s Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer and Business and Operations teams — comprises more than 1,400 employees who are focused on delivering world-class service and support to students, faculty and staff.
Here are five things to know about Pitt Finance and Operations:
1. The office is led by Dwayne Pinkney, executive senior vice chancellor of administration and finance and CFO, who joined Pitt in July. He previously served in similar roles at Indiana University, Virginia Tech and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In addition to a master’s degree in public administration from Pitt, Pinkney (GSPIA ’87) holds a PhD in political science from UNC Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism from North Carolina A&T State University.
2. Pitt Finance and Operations keeps the University running. Its responsibilities range from campus safety to real estate; from infrastructure to groundskeeping; from the budget to student payments, housing and dining; from purchasing to payroll — and don’t forget risk management, the University stores and Heinz Memorial Chapel.
3. For the University community, the people and services remain in place. Campus resources, safety, sustainability and financial support haven’t changed. They’re just under a new umbrella.
4. Teamwork is key. The new office operates as one cohesive team, upholding shared governance and working together to achieve the objectives of the Plan for Pitt 2028.
5. Looking for material from the former CFO or Business and Operations websites? That information can be found on the new Finance and Operations site.
