Submit your art for Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh by Oct. 20

The Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh initiative has returned for a second year and is accepting submissions from experienced and emerging artists across the University and broader Pittsburgh community.

Designed to expand and celebrate diverse cultures and perspectives, the art program is a partnership among Pitt, the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and community collaborators, including 1Hood Media and the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. Artists are challenged to submit work that depicts their vision of justice and equity in Pittsburgh through any of the following categories:

• Writing for the page: short story, poetry, personal essay and flash fiction
• Visual art: 2D and 3D art, painting, photography, sculpture, fiber art and graphic design
• Performance: music, dance, slam poetry, spoken word
• Video and interdisciplinary: works that cross categories, including mixed media and digital art

Anyone 17 and younger by the deadline can submit to the Youth Arts division in any category.

Participants must apply by Oct. 20. Submissions will be reviewed by judges from the local art community. Winners, who will receive awards of up to $2,000, will be announced in December. Selected works will be featured in public exhibitions throughout Pittsburgh in February 2025.
