Sydney Wilhelmy, a senior in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the David C. Frederick Honors College, was named to the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), translated in English as the German Academic Exchange Service.
The DAAD annually supports more than 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the world with funding for study and research visits to German universities and research institutions.
Wilhelmy, who is finishing up his major in political science and minors in economics, Arabic language and linguistics, European studies and Mediterranean studies, is looking to pursue graduate studies in international relations at the Hertie School in Berlin. He is specifically interested in the intersection of security politics and human rights.
During his undergraduate career at Pitt, Wilhelmy has also been a recipient of the inaugural Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service, or Voyager Scholarship, and is currently a semifinalist for a Fulbright to Germany.
