Pitt’s Cathedral of Learning welcomed talks from experts in perception, consciousness, memory, artificial intelligence and more for the annual meeting of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology June 20-23.

More than 250 people attended the conference, sponsored by Pitt’s Center for Philosophy of Science and the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. The annual meetings promote interaction among philosophers, psychologists and other cognitive scientists on issues of common concern.

Notable speakers included the winner of and finalists for the William James Prize, which is awarded annually to the best American philosophy paper by a recent PhD or current graduate student. Edvard Aviles Meza took the prize for his paper, “Imagination without Awareness.” An invited symposium on language development memorialized renowned language acquisition expert Lila Gleitman, where Mandy Simons, Joshua Armstrong, Sharon Armstrong and Noam Chomsky reflected on her life, work and legacy.
