Shaun Eack won the Gerard E. Hogarty Excellence in Schizophrenia Research Memorial Award

Eack

Shaun Eack, James and Noel Browne Endowed Chair and professor in Pitt’s School of Social Work, earned this year’s Gerard E. Hogarty Excellence in Schizophrenia Research Memorial Award.

The associate dean of research has studied development, implementation and evaluation of psychosocial treatment methodologies to improve the care of people with schizophrenia and related disorders. Eack is also broadly interested in social work education and workforce development as they relate to the provision of care for people with schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses.

The award is named for Gerard Hogarty, a faculty member of Pitt’s Department of Psychiatry and a member of the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital for more than 30 years. His career in clinical research led to major advancements in the treatment of individuals with schizophrenia and his work continues to be recognized both nationally and internationally. In addition to his research endeavors, Hogarty was a talented teacher and mentor who played a significant role in the career development of many respected researchers and clinicians in the field, including Eack.

Eack will be presented with the honor during the virtual 40th annual Pittsburgh Schizophrenia Conference on Nov. 17.
