The University Honors College has launched a yearlong effort to advance research and programs on systemic racism.
“The research, community projects, courses and interactions that cut across what tends to divide us is what makes higher education and Pitt Honors both special and necessary,” said Audrey J. Murrell, acting dean of the University Honors College.
Pitt Honors will provide a special research fund for students within the Honors College for projects addressing systemic racism and social justice. Funding will also provide support for faculty fellows pursuing new or continued research projects on systemic racism with preference given to projects that engage undergraduate students in the research endeavor.
Two additional funds have also been established: Pitt Honors will support proposals by honors students who want to conduct special projects, experiential opportunities and/or community-projects on addressing issues related to racism and social justice. A separate fund was established for Pitt Honors staff to create unique program and experiential opportunities on issues related to race, racism and social justice.
