More than 25 Pitt faculty and staff will be celebrated at a virtual event from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 6, for earning the Global Competence Certificate, one of the opportunities offered by Pitt’s Faculty and Staff Development Program (FSDP). The celebration will close out this year’s annual International Week.
To earn the certificate, employees attend two required workshops as well as four elective sessions they selected from two tracks—the Cross-Cultural Module or Operating in an International Context Module. They also participate in a capstone conversation to review what they’ve learned about understanding diverse cultures and to reflect on their own cultural values.
“Our interactive program enables participants to develop their global mindset,” said Belkys Torres, Pitt’s executive director of global engagement. “Faculty and staff identify their own cultural values, analyze how those values impact our working and learning environments and discover areas of growth.”
Torres says graduates of the program are empowered to apply what they have learned to build “an inclusive and welcoming environment across our campuses and communities.”
The Friday celebration will allow certificate holders to share their experiences and learn about other FSDP opportunities. Anyone interested in attending must email Ian McLaughlin at globalsupport [at] pitt.edu to request the Zoom registration link.
