Speakers' wisdom
Chemist-turned-soccer-referee Katy Nesbitt (A&S '15G) encouraged Pitt's newest class of alumni to have confidence in the knowledge they have gained at the University as they venture out into the world.
"Who you are at our weakest is who you are at your strongest," Nesbitt said in her speech.
Aya Dakroub, who earned her degree in chemistry from Pitt's Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences on Sunday, addressed her graduating peers as this year's undergraduate speaker. Her message to the Class of 2023: "Hail to our kindness, honesty and resiliency. Hail to the moments and the people that brought us here. And above all else, Hail to Pitt!"
An accomplishment worth celebrating
After the last senior had become a graduate and blue and gold confetti filled the air, the Class of 2023 celebrated with shouting, smiles and selfies.
Supporting roles
Parents, family and friends braved the lines and crowds to attend the ceremony and spotlight their graduates.
A last look
April 30 didn't only mark a close for the Class of 2023 — for Patrick Gallagher, the ceremony was the last he would attend as chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh. He will watch graduates take their walk across the stage again in 2025, this time as a physics professor in Pitt's Dietrich School.
