Get the most interesting and important stories from the University of Pittsburgh.Last week saw the summer’s empty sidewalks and quiet afternoons in Schenley Quad replaced with thousands of undergraduate, international, graduate and professional students who flocked to the Pittsburgh campus for the 2022-23 academic year.
The University of Pittsburgh hosted plenty of events to help kick off the fall term, starting with a flurry of activities during Welcome Week. Old friends connected over lunch on the lawn, and new students shook off those lonely days of summer as they gathered across campus for picnics, games, free food and frivolity before hitting the books.
The week continued with Pitt’s oldest tradition, Lantern Night, on the evening before the first day of classes and culminated in Pitt Program Council’s annual bonfire to rile up Panther fans for the start of the football season and the return of the Backyard Brawl.
The photographers in the Office of University Communications and Marketing were at this year’s signature events, capturing smiles and memories for the ages.
Here’s to an excellent year, and Hail to Pitt!
