The University of Pittsburgh’s undergraduate nursing program is among the top in the nation, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report’s Best College rankings.

Pitt Nursing jumped six spots to tie for No. 4 — the highest ranking in the BSN’s history.

“This ranking reflects the stature of our nursing program and its long legacy of excellence,” said Anantha Shekhar, Pitt’s senior vice chancellor for the health sciences and the John and Gertrude Petersen Dean of the School of Medicine. “It is a testament to the caliber, talent and commitment of our faculty and staff.”

The BSN, housed on Pitt’s Greensburg and Johnstown campuses as well as in Pittsburgh, joins other highly ranked Pitt Nursing programs, including the Nurse Anesthesia DNP program, tied at No. 2; the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner DNP program, No. 5; the Doctor of Nursing, tied at No. 11; and the School of Nursing’s online MSN program, tied at No. 14.

“We could not be more pleased with this fitting recognition,” said Christine E. Kasper, dean of the School of Nursing. “This year, we received the most applications in the school’s history and enrolled one of our largest classes, welcoming 250 first-year students. Prospective students are aware of the quality of our program, which has long been top tier. Year after year, we graduate highly prepared nursing professionals and leaders to meet the nursing shortage in Pennsylvania and nationally. Our alumni provide leadership and care wherever they serve. They make us proud.”

Innovation in research and engineering

U.S. News also recognized Pitt in its Best Undergraduate Research/Creative Projects ranking for the first time, rating our scholars’ work at No. 32.

"It is both important and affirming that Pitt has been recognized for the first time in this ranking,” said Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Joe McCarthy. “The exceptional and ever-increasing opportunities Pitt offers for our undergraduate students as they stretch their growing knowledge and abilities in both research and creative spaces are key to our educational mission."

Pitt engineering and innovation received accolades, too: Undergraduate biomedical engineering and industrial/manufacturing engineering were ranked for the first time, at Nos. 28 and 17, respectively, while Pitt landed at No. 63 on the Most Innovative Schools list.

Overall, Pitt ranked 70th among all universities. Explore the full 2025 rankings.
