Announcements and Updates

Benefits open enrollment has begun for Pitt employees

Blue flags with the Pitt shield emblem

The University of Pittsburgh’s benefits open enrollment period has begun.

The annual opportunity to make changes to your insurance elections will end on May 31. Once the enrollment period ends, your benefits can only be changed during the plan year if you experience a qualified life event.

To make changes to or enroll in your benefits elections, log into Pitt Worx, select Benefits from the Me page, then click the Make Changes button. Note that if you are adding new dependents, you must first add them on the Before You Enroll page and upload the appropriate documentation in Document Records prior to enrolling in your benefits.

If you do not wish to make changes to your current benefits elections, then no action is required.

What’s new in 2023

Medical plans

These key changes could impact which plan you choose.

  • The Panther Plus and Panther Advocate plans have merged into one plan called Panther PPO. Anyone currently enrolled in the previous plans who does not make a benefit selection during open enrollment will automatically be placed into Panther PPO.
  • The Panther Gold plan now has a $150/$300 deductible for non-copayment services.
  • The Basic Plan deductible is now $2,000/$4,000.

Vision plan

Davis Vision is now Davis Vision by MetLife. Only the group number and customer service contact information will be different with this name change; coverage will stay the same.

Legal plan

For noncovered matters that are not otherwise included, your MetLife Legal Service plan will now provide four additional hours of network attorney time and services per year.

Upcoming information sessions

Pitt’s Office of Human Resources will host two live webinar sessions to explain benefits and changes for 2023 and to answer questions about enrollment. Register for session one at 11 a.m. May 16, or for session two at noon May 24. A recording of the webinar will be available on the Open Enrollment website after the session takes place.

An in-person information session is scheduled for May 25 in the William Pitt Union, Room 548. Representatives from different benefit vendors will be available to talk to and answer questions beginning at 11 a.m., and an information session identical to the webinars will begin at noon. No registration is required.

Full-time and part-time faculty and staff as well as research associates and postdocs can access more information on benefits enrollment from Pitt’s Office of Human Resources website. Questions? You can submit an inquiry online or call 833-852-2210.
