Pitt staff member selected for Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Project Development and Evaluation Workshop

Laura Miller

Laura Miller, associate director of the Office of Academic Career Development in the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences, was among ten candidates selected to participate in the Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Project Development and Evaluation Workshop.

The program is targeted at early career administrators providing professional support services for PhD scientists. Following a three-day workshop in August, Miller will embark on a year-long research project supported by a $15,000 grant. After completing her study, she’ll submit those results for presentation at a national meeting and prepare a related manuscript for publication.

“I am honored to receive this opportunity. Attending this workshop will allow me to develop the tools necessary to critically evaluate programming for Pitt trainees in the health sciences," Miller said.

She said her post-workshop goal is to create transformative programming that supports trainees’ career development and success and continues Pitt’s tradition as a leader in the training of biomedical researchers.

The Burrough’s Wellcome Fund is a private foundation dedicated to advancing the biomedical sciences. The fund champions many causes, including studying human infectious diseases, North Carolina’s STEM teachers and physician-scientists.
