Tao Han, Distinguished Professor of High Energy Physics at the University of Pittsburgh, won the Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany.
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes international academic cooperation between scholars from Germany and other countries. The Humboldt Research Award is given to up to 100 researchers annually for internationally outstanding academic qualifications. Winners receive €60,000 and an invitation to conduct a research project of their choice at a research institution in Germany.
Han has been at Pitt since 2011. His research is in the field of elementary particle physics theory, focusing on high-energy collider physics and in connection to astro-particle physics and cosmology. He has published a number of highly cited research papers in his career, including one which has been cited in more than 1,000 other studies since. He also recently won the American Physical Society’s 2025 Meenakshi Narain Mentoring Award.
