Virtual FlyLab Exercises
We will have assigned exercises using the Virtual FlyLab to illustrate some fundamental genetic
principles and procedures. Sometimes we will take more than one class week to consider the results
of a FlyLab exercise. The topics are as follows:
Exercise 1: ( Read Exercise 1)
- Basic experimental operations
- Dominance relationships
Exercise 2: (Read exercise 2)
- Independent assortment
- Recombination frequencies
Exercise 3: (Read exercise 3)
- Linkage determination
- Simple two-point crosses in cis
Exercise 4: (Read exercise 4)
- Sex-linked markers
- Detecting dominance
Exercise 5: (Read exercise 5)
- Mapping by 3-point crosses
- Constructing genetic maps
Exercise 6: (Read exercise 6)
- Assembling and evaluating data
- Linkage analysis
- Cooperative data assembly
Exercise 7: (Read exercise 7)
- Cooperative experimental design
- Multigene mapping
- Cooperative data assembly and analysis
