When and where are office hours?
Dr. Jacobson will have regular office hours Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:45-4:00. A signup sheet for appointments will be posted outside 527 Langley Hall. If you wish to see the instructor, please sign up for an appointment on the sheet for your chosen day, on a first-come-first-served basis. Two or three students who have the same questions may sign up for a joint appointment. Please remember that appointments may be heavily booked immediately preceding an exam, so plan ahead. If you absolutely cannot make it during office hours, please call the instructor (or talk to me in class) to make an appointment at another time. Also consider using our e-mail conferencing system

Can I withdraw from the course after the add-drop deadline?
The instructor will not approve any requests for withdrawal after the second hour exam, except in extraordinary circumstances. Poor student performance is not considered to be an extraordinary circumstance justifying permission to withdraw.

What if I miss a class?
All lectures will be digitally recorded and can be downloaded from the "Syllabus" page of this website as .mp3 (larger) or .wma (smaller) files. Copies of overhead transparencies used in the lecture will be available in Langley Library. These should be available in the morning of the day following each lecture. Every effort will be made to get good recording, but accidents may happen. You are welcome to make your own recordings of lectures and recitations.

How are grades determined?
Each hour exam counts 100 points and the Final exam counts 150 points. Your grade is determined according to a scale based on the performance of students in previous years. Present students do not compete against each other. This means you can and should help each other learn Genetics the best you possibly can.

Is there any way to get extra credit?
No. Please don't ask. If you are asking this question, you are probably already in trouble and would do better by devoting more time to this course.

What if I need more problems to do?
Do the problems at the end of each chapter in the text. Feel free to discuss them at office hours or by e-mail.
