  Powdermill Biological Station

The field station for the Carnegie Museum of Natural History is Powdermill, a 2,220 acre biological study area and nature preserve 60 miles south east of Pittsburgh. Located in the Laurel Highlands, Powdermill offers numerous sites for teaching and research, including deciduous forests, headwater streams, and old fields. Facilities include the following

  • Five winterized cabins with kitchens
  • Laboratory space
  • Classroom / Conference room with a 200 person capacity
  • Nature Center (open to the public)
  • Full-time staff
